Center
Museums and Art Galleries - Old City of Havana Regions of Cuba - Travel Guide The Center is an institution which is devoted to conducting research into and disseminating the visual arts of Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean. Its mission is essentially to reach out to visitors from the so-called Third World and promote the study and dissemination of the paintings of Wifredo Lam, a genuine representative of Cuban culture and one of the great painters of the 20th century. Another important function of the center
is to compile and classify up-to-date information on the visual arts for
artists, critics, researchers and the public at large. It has a substantial
bibliographical and documentary collection and maintains exchange
The Wifredo Lam Center also houses a public gallery featuring works by Cuban and foreign artists and sponsors the Havana Biennial, an exhibit designed to foster the development of the visual arts in the Third World and to seek the most genuine forms of expression. This Biennial comprises exhibits, workshops, meetings, debates and a series of cultural activities. Collections:
