Museum of Fine Arts
Museums and Art Galleries - Old City of Havana Regions of Cuba - Travel Guide The National Museum was founded in 1913 and moved to its present location in 1955. Originally it concentrated upon archaeology, ethnography, history, painting and sculpture, but now specializes in the fine arts. The museum is home to three collections. Cuban Art from the 17th century to the present, features works by Miguel Melero, Estaban Chartrand, Armando Menocal, Victor Manuel, Portocarrero, Wifredo Lam, Servando Cabrerra, Amelia Pelaez and others. European Painting offers originals by Rubens, Murillo, Zurbaran, Velazquez, Goya, Hans Memling and others. Ancient Art showcases the finest collection of Egyptian, Greek and Roman pieces in Latin America, including funeral portraits from Al Fayyum of the 2nd to the 4th centuries. Also showings are collections of Cuban and European painting. As well, the museum is playing host to Ancient Art (Greece, Egypt and Rome), a temporary painting and sculpture exhibit.
